OpenAI recently announced plans to allow EROTICA and EXPLICIT SEXUAL CONTENT on ChatGPT for verified adults starting later this year.
On one level, it’s presented as a “freedom for adults” issue — treating users like adults who can make their own choices.
But many of us see a deeper question:
Should technology companies encourage or normalize erotica when the evidence shows it can fuel loneliness, addictive behavior, and distorted ideas of intimacy?
AI has the power to elevate minds, strengthen relationships, and form better habits. Turning it toward sexual stimulation risks cheapening both human dignity and the purpose of this technology.
I believe we need to speak up about what kind of digital world we want to build — one that nurtures virtue and wholeness, or one that profits from impulse and isolation.

Honestly curious to hear what the Perplexity team thinks about all this — though I suspect they’re far too busy actually building things that matter (or, you know, quietly changing the world) to get tangled up in this kind of circus.
What you should he asking is: "Jow how much data would you have to hand over to them in order to be adult-verified?".
Because as we have seen time and again, data breaches and personal data being leaked is far more common than these companies dare to admit.
