"Looking for a junior developer with 10 years of experience."
We’ve all seen job descriptions like this—and yes, it feels just like the meme.
But behind the humor, there’s an important truth: experience matters in development.
In software engineering, experience isn’t just about the number of years—it’s about the lessons learned:
1. Debugging at 2 AM when nothing makes sense.
2. Knowing when to write clean code vs. quick fixes.
3. Understanding trade-offs between scalability, performance, and deadlines.
4. Learning to collaborate with designers, testers, and PMs for smooth delivery.\
These are things no tutorial or bootcamp can fully teach—you grow into them with time, mistakes, and iteration.
So while it’s unrealistic to expect a "junior with a decade of experience," it’s fair to acknowledge why companies value experience: it brings perspective, problem-solving maturity, and resilience.
